Prices & Release Date of iPhone 4 in Thailand

At the moment we still don't have any official news of release dates and prices for the iPhone 4 in Thailand. However, the TrueMove website is already advertising on their front page for the iPhone 4 to be "coming soon" to Thailand. At the moment, we are expecting the iPhone to be released during September 2010. However, can you really keep saying "coming soon" for the next three months? Is there any chance that the iPhone 4 will be released in Thailand earlier than expected? The people at www.siampod.com speculate that it could be earlier. In fact, they reckon it could before 15th August 2010 for the release of iPhone 4 in Thailand.
UPDATE ON 29TH JUNE 2010: The iPhone 4 was on sale at MBK over the weekend with prices in the grey market settling at 16GB 54,000 baht and 32 GB 59,000 baht.

If this mid-August release date is true, then that would only be less than two months after the official release of the iPhone in the USA. In America, people will be able to buy the iPhone 4 from 24th June 2010. We are then expecting this to arrive in the grey market in Thailand in early July. Prices of course will be very high. But, if the official iPhone 4 will be sold only two months later by TrueMove and DTAC, is it a good idea to buy on the grey market? As we all know, the prices in the grey market always come down once news of the official release dates are released. At the moment we have news that iStudio in Thailand will be officially selling the iPad as early as the end of July 2010. This news (or speculation) has already resulted in price drops for the iPad at MBK and Fortune Tower. We are still waiting for official prices but it could be just a little more than America.

So, how much can we expect to pay for the iPhone 4 in Thailand? I think the first indication of an imminent release will be a price drop for the iPhone 3GS in Thailand. At the moment, 3GS handsets still cost 24,500 baht (16GB) and 28,500 baht (32GB). The prices don't include the 7% VAT. The reason these prices for the 3GS must fall BEFORE the iPhone 4 can come out is that we are expecting these to be the Thai prices for the new iPhone 4 in Thailand. If you want to buy a 3GS iPhone then it is best to WAIT until the price drop expected in August. If you want to sell your 3GS iPhone then it is obviously best to do it NOW before prices drop! Obviously for me, as I use my iPhone 3GS for work, I cannot sell this one until the new iPhone 4 comes out. There has been news that True might be setting up a second-hand market for iPhones in the near future. This is something I will be keeping a close eye on.

Thank you very much for these great news! Hopefully it will be released in August! =)
June 20th, 2010 - 16:24
I read the other day that AIS will be selling the iPhone 4 as well.
June 20th, 2010 - 17:55
iphone4 at Pantip quite soon after release. I got the #iOS4 on my 3g yesterday.
June 21st, 2010 - 15:16
My cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
June 22nd, 2010 - 19:57
Dear Richard,
please let us know once the iPhone 4 hits the stores at MBK. I think a lot of people want to get informed about that. I can’t wait =)
June 22nd, 2010 - 20:50
For sure I will let you know. I will announce on my Twitter account straight away @RichardBarrow. I have a feeling that as there is such a large demand in America and Europe that there will be a delay and most certainly the ones arriving in the first week will be very expensive.
June 23rd, 2010 - 09:15
I agree with you. Personally, I think that we won’t see any iPhones in June. Can you estimate any price for the iPhone? I think the price for the 32GB will be around 30.000THB. I’m also wondering if these iPhones at MBK will be factory unlocked!?
June 23rd, 2010 - 09:24
I think more countries this time will have factory unlocked iPhones which will find their way here. Expect prices to be 30,000-40,000 baht to start with. However, I think there will be many people, like myself, waiting for the official release towards the end of August. This is not so long to wait. Prices are all about supply and demand. You never know, if many people choose to wait then prices in the grey market might be lower than expected.
June 23rd, 2010 - 13:46
I just signed up on the TrueMove iPhone Newsletter. I hope TrueMove will announce the release date asap. Otherwise I can’t stop myself from going to MBK and buy it… I must confess, I’m an addict
June 23rd, 2010 - 15:55
Would there be any advantage of a TrueMove/DTAC/AIS iPhone over an iPhone from MBK? What about warranty at MBK shops?
June 23rd, 2010 - 16:04
The problem with the phone shops at MBK is that they are literally hundreds of them. I can never remember where to go when I need to go back to return items that are no longer working. I would say about 70% of electrical items that I bought at MBK I had to return them to have them replaced. To their credit, they have always replaced them even when I just picked their shop at random. With very expensive items I would be very careful about which shop I bought from.
June 23rd, 2010 - 16:06
I see. Since it’s a lot of money, I should probably wait for an official release here in Thailand. I will wait for the prices at MBK and make my decision if it’s worth it or not
June 24th, 2010 - 13:58
If I was Apple it would be sooner rather than later. It’s in Apple’s interest – and also the interest of the official partners in Thailand – to not allow the grey market to go on for too long. The main problem is that there are already shortages in all countries where pre-orders were possible. HUGE demand.
Steve Jobs was asked about iPad sales and one reporter wondered if the Apple store was up to the task to process sales of one every 3 seconds. Jobs answered that he was more concerned about being able to make one ever 3 seconds.
June 24th, 2010 - 14:26
I don’t think Apple is too concerned because iPhones on the grey market have already been sold by them in other countries. The people losing out will bee TrueMove, DTAC and AIS. But, I agree, sooner would be better than later. But, like you said, I doubt they can make them quick enough.
June 25th, 2010 - 11:54
Any news about the iPhone stock at MBK? I want one!
June 25th, 2010 - 20:45
iPhone 4 16GB arrives at MBK this week with expected price 43,500 baht (UK price for unlocked 16GB only 25,000 baht)
June 27th, 2010 - 10:38
any news from MBK and the prices?
June 27th, 2010 - 17:46
On Twitter they are saying someone bought an iPhone 4 at MBK on Sunday 27th June 2010 for an incredible 77,300 baht! That is a crazy price. In two months it will be 25,000 baht.
June 27th, 2010 - 22:11
Lol……
June 29th, 2010 - 14:57
The iPhone 4 was on sale at MBK over the weekend with prices in the grey market settling at 16GB 54,000 baht and 32 GB 59,000 baht. The official launch of the iPhone 4 in Thailand is expected in less than two months. Personally I would wait as these prices will start coming down drastically in August 2010. We are probably looking at about 25,000 baht for the 16GB iPhone 4 once it is officially released here.
July 3rd, 2010 - 01:43
Hells Bells 59 000 is spensive.
And handing that amount of cash to an MBK crook would be humiliating.
It will be worth waiting for the official release.
July 4th, 2010 - 14:34
Well, price just 59,000 Bath It’s not 59,000 $. But Apple makes me doubt something, In 5 countries…..price of iPhone with no deal just 300$. so if more about 300$ that we have to pay….what is we pay for? And if i were Thai people i will not buy iPhone 4g he he it’s look a little bit stupid because of 4g must not cover all of country but it’s just 20-25 provinces. By the way cant expect full 4g signal level in Thailand and it’s not soon. But Who cares

IPhones bought in America are locked which is why they are so cheap. If you want to use it in Thailand you will have pay to get it unlocked.
July 8th, 2010 - 12:17
Anne, shortly you should be able to unlock your iphone 4 from the US without paying someone to do it. Here is a good blog to read in regards to the progress of unlocking the iphone 4. http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ Currently they have figured out how to unlock the new iphone operating system (ios4) on the iphone 3gs, so it is only a matter of time until they figure out how to unlock ios4 on the iphone 4. It will likely be as easy as running the jailbreak/unlock program on your computer/iphone, and then you will be able to use it Thailand by just inserting a local sim (it has to be a micro sim or you can cut down your regular sim). But the easiest thing to do is to just wait until iphone 4 is released in Thailand (or buy a factory unlocked iphone in another country such as Hong Kong or Canada), otherwise, every time Apple updates the iphone software, you will have to wait for the hackers to unlock the new software, and then redo the whole unlocking process.

The reason that I bought an official release from True which is factory unlocked is because I didn’t want to have these problems every time I upgraded the OS.

The iPhone 4 16GB will sell outright for $1099 (25,725.3 baht) in New Zealand, and a new 8GB version of its 3GS predecessor will drop to $899.
