Thailand Press Release for iPhone 4

True Move and DTAC have both released to the Thai media brief press releases confirming their intention on selling the new iPhone 4 in Thailand. This follows the recent keynote speech about the iPhone 4 by Steve Jobs.

TRUE MOVE: "ทรูมูฟ พร้อมเปิดตัว iPhone 4 ในประเทศไทย อย่างยิ่งใหญ่อีกครั้ง เร็วๆ นี้ ซึ่ง iPhone 4 เป็นสมาร์ทโฟนที่บางที่สุดในโลก พร้อมการแสดงผลบนหน้าจอโทรศัพท์มือถือที่มีความละเอียดสูงสุด ติดตามรายละเอียดเพิ่มเติม ได้ที่ www.truemove.com/iphone4"

DTAC: "ดีแทคจะเปิดตัว iPhone 4 ซึ่งเป็นสมาร์ทโฟนที่บางที่สุดในโลกพร้อมหน้าจอสีที่มีความละเอียดสูงสุด เท่าที่เคยมีมาในตลาดสมาร์ทโฟนในประเทศไทยในอีกไม่กี่เดือนข้างหน้า รับทราบข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับ iPhone 4 ได้ที่ www.apple.com/iphone"

Both press releases are very similar which suggests that the information is being controlled by Apple. What is disappointing is that there is no confirmation of either a launch date or a price. True Move uses the words "coming soon" while DTAC opts for the more realistic "in a few months". Although Apple hasn't released a full schedule yet, it is highly anticipated that True Move and DTAC will be selling the iPhone in Thailand in September 2010. The price is expected to be the same as the original iPhone 3GS price from last year. This will probably then mean that at some point during August 2010, the price of the iPhone 3GS in Thailand will be reduced.

    do you think that true and dtac will give options for those people who bought their device from overseas or business travelers who are only visiting Thailand the option of a micro sim-only contract? or will they only sell mircosim cards with iphone data plan if you buy their iphone also? Thoughts?

    At the moment you can buy the normal SIM cards and data packages for the iPhone 3G even if you didn’t buy the iPhone from them. However, it is slightly more expensive. I believe that they are now doing the same with the Micro Sim cards for the iPad and the upcoming iPhone 4. Incidentally, I am told True and DTAC won’t be selling the iPad in Thailand as it will be sold exclusively by iStudio. More news on that soon.
