I Know My Thai Alphabet

Posted on August 14, 2010

Do you want to learn the Thai alphabet? Try this fun iPhone app which has flashcards of all of the 44 characters of the Thai alphabet.

This app, called I Know: My กขค, is a clean looking set of flashcards aimed at Thai kids learning their alphabet. However, it can equally be used by foreigners who want to learn the Thai alphabet. Each card has the letter and the picture representing that letter. For example, Gor Gai is represented by a chicken. You can click on the letter to hear the word being pronounced. Swipe the card to go to the next one. That is basically it. No games or tests. Maybe they will add that in future updates. For now it is free so go and download it now!

  1. This separation of the iTunes Store into country markets is sooo 20th century. I’d like to get this app!

    (Greetings from Germany)

    z.

  2. Not available in the US iTunes store. Saw your instructions for opening a US account if you live in Thailand, do they work for opening a Thai account if you live in US?

  3. I presume you can. It is a free app so you should be able to do sign up like we can for the American iTunes store.

  4. I’m having the same problem — we (currently) live in the US and it won’t let us download it. I tried switching to the Thai store, but to create an account on the Thai store we need to enter a Thai billing address; as soon as I try to set my billing address to the US, it switches me back to the US store and thus we’re caught in an endless loop. Any ideas? Is there any way to contact the developer directly?

  5. I am sure you can sign up in the same way we have to do to get free apps on the American iTunes strore. Just follow these instructions:

    http://iphone.mythailandblog.com/2010/06/open-an-itunes-account-without-a-credit-card/

Enter an address for Thailand and not USA. Doesn’t have to be real. You are not entering credit card information.

The app is made by True which is a big corporation in Thailand. Not very easy to contact them unlike other developers. I guess they are bringing out these free apps in Thailand as they want to encourage people here to buy their iPhones and sign up for their data packages.

  6. Weird. I was about to follow your instructions, but I get a message from iTunes that “The item you’ve requested is not currently available in the Thai Store.”

  7. Very strange. After I reviewed the app I spotted it in the Top 10 in the Thai store a few days later. But no where in sight now. I wonder why it was withdrawn.

  8. Doggone, this looked like what I’m looking for. Anyone know of an app with Thai alphabet flashcards and voice?

  9. This one is very nice (but no vowels)… and free! http://ifuturestudio.com/products/th-write/

  10. Wow, what a pain in the Apple! My US account didn’t work, so as described I setup a Thai account with a Thai address. I successfully downloaded the app and installed it from the US. Great app!
