Game for English & Thai Learners

There is an iPhone game called ฟอง สบู่ which is both cute and very addictive. The English name is English Word Bubble Review. It is actually aimed at Thai people to learn English vocabulary in a fun way. However, it is great fun for people learning Thai. I meant to only play it once or twice but I haven't put it down all week. It is so addictive.

The game has four levels of difficulty. The easy level has 300 vocabulary words. You are given the word in Thai script and then you have to pop the bubbles with your fingers in the correct order to spell out the English word. As you can see, as long as you can read Thai, it doesn't matter if you are learning English or Thai. Your score is in the top right and the countdown clock is in the left. After each game you are given a vocabulary review which encourages you to keep playing to improve your high score. The price for this app at present is $2.99 which was recently reduced from $4.99.
COMPETITION: I liked this game so much that I asked the developers if we could have some spare copies to give away in a competition. They generously gave us five copies! To win one, all you have to do is post a comment to this post. It is that easy. We will be picking the winners on Sunday 11th July 2010. Good luck!
Win Guidebook Apps for the iPhone

Some of the best guidebooks apps out there for the iPhone are produced by Travelfish. We have most of them on our iPhone and are looking forward to testing them in the field soon.

The kind folks at Travelfish have given us some free apps to give away in a competition on our iPhone blog. We have one app for each of the following four guidebooks:
- Ko Samet, Thailand travel guide
- Ko Phi Phi, Thailand travel guide
- Ko Lanta, Thailand travel guide
- Luang Prabang, Laos travel guide
- Angkor Wat, Cambodia travel guide
To enter the competition is very easy. All you have to do is post a comment saying which iPhone guidebook app you would like. If you want all five apps then you need to post a comment five times. Each time naming a different guidebook. We will enter all the names into a hat and the first person we pick for each guidebook gets the app! Closing date for this competition is the evening of Monday 5th July 2010.
The Angkor Wat and Luang Prabang guidebooks are normally priced at $5.99 and the others are at $3.99. However, they are having a limited time sale on some of the guidebooks at the moment and so if you don't win the competition, the I suggest you buy some of these excellent guidebook apps while the price is right! Coming soon are guidebooks for Ko Tao and Ko Pha Ngan. A guidebook for Chiang Mai will be released later in the year.
Radio Thailand app for iPhone

There are probably half a dozen different Thai Radio apps available for the iPhone. There are often as good as each other. However, only Radio Thailand has updated recently to take advantage of multi-tasking on iOS4. This means that you can listen to the radio in the background while surfing the net or reading an iBook.

Radio Thailand claims to have over 150 online radio stations. I am not sure how true that is as there were too many for me to count. However, as on other radio apps, you will find that there are a number of radio stations that just won't work. Either the server is down or they have changed address. But during my test over the last two days I was pleased with the number of stations that I could connect to very quickly. You have the option to add them as favourites and there is even a history so that you can see what you played recently. During my tests, the app seemed to be a drain on the batteries so you probably won't be able to listen to Internet radio on the beach all day. Overall this is a nice radio app for anyone around the world who wants to listen to Thai radio on their iPhone.
